Language Learning Space (www.lls.edu.au<http://www.lls.edu.au/>)
Focused on students from Years 5-9 (where student engagement in language-learning is often declining) the Language Learning Space (www.lls.edu.au<http://www.lls.edu.au/>) delivers language learning programs and activities for learners of Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian in Australian schools.
Teachers can use the available resources or upload their own resources, create learning challenges and assessment activities, monitor student progress, and engage in professional learning with other teachers across Australia. Other features include:
- Immersive, game-based student learning challenges set in-country
- Resources and lessons aligned to the Australian Curriculum
- Teacher development materials including videos, blogs and e-books
- Award winning mobile apps CanUHanyu (Chinese) (http://www.canuhanyu.edu.au<http://www.canuhanyu.edu.au/>), RasaBahasa (Indonesian) (http://www.rasabahasa.edu.au<http://www.rasabahasa.edu.au/>), and NihongoGo (Japanese) (http://www.nihongogo.edu.au<http://www.nihongogo.edu.au/>)
- Free access to qualified tutors based in China, Indonesia or Japan
Practical resources for librarians include materials such as 'Texts for the Australian curriculum', an annotated bibliography that lists novels and film about and from Asia. It's in the module 'Focus on Japan across the Secondary Curriculum'.
Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and developed by Education Services Australia, the Language Learning Space is part of a broader commitment to language learning.
